Lately, any time I go into my chicken coop there is a tornado of flies buzzing around. It has been so bad that I would have to hold my breath and close my mouth just to gather the eggs for fear that the gross pests would fly into my mouth! I finally decided to take matters into my own hands and mix up a fly spray in hopes of reducing the fly population! This is a super easy recipe and you most likely have all of the ingredients needed for it already on hand.

1 Cup Vinegar

1 Cup Water

1 Teaspoon Vanilla

10 drops of Rosemary Essential Oil

10 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil

10 drops of Lemon Essential Oil

10 drops of Lavender Essential Oil

Mix all of the ingredients in a spray bottle and shake well. Make sure your coop is clean and that you have scooped out all of the poop and muck before you spray. It is a no brain-er that flies love stinky nasty poop, so in order for you to have the best results keep your coop clean. I scoop the poop out once a week and I spray my coop down with this spray every morning and it has really done the trick! It is much more pleasant to gather the eggs now that I’m not worried about getting assaulted by a million flies the second I walk into the coop! Let me know how it works for you in the comments!
